Ripple has partnered with Wormhole to bring seamless cross-chain interoperability to the XRP Ledger (XRPL) and its upcoming XRPL EVM Sidechain. This collaboration comes amid a growing demand for stablecoins and digital assets that can be seamlessly transferred across multiple blockchains.
Through this partnership, developers and institutions can now use Wormhole to transfer tokens, share data, and issue assets across more than 35 interconnected blockchains. Notably, Wormhole already supports over 200 applications and has processed more than $60 billion in cross-chain transactions since its launch in 2020.

XRPL Developers Unlock New Capabilities
The integration allows XRPL developers to transfer XRP, IOUs, and Multi-Purpose Tokens (MPTs) to and from other blockchains. They can also send messages and data across chains to interact with smart contracts outside of XRPL. Ripple confirmed the move in an official post today.
Robinson Burkey, Co-Founder of the Wormhole Foundation, said the collaboration enhances XRPL’s versatility. According to him, connecting XRPL to more networks removes adoption barriers, particularly for enterprises in the finance sector.

Ripple CTO David Schwartz also emphasized the need for robust interoperability. He explained that tokens issued on XRPL can now move across other blockchains without losing their structure or control. This flexibility, he noted, opens the door for developers to create powerful apps in payments, DeFi, and tokenized assets.
XRPL EVM Sidechain Prepares for Mainnet Launch
Ripple’s focus on interoperability aligns with its upcoming XRPL EVM Sidechain launch in Q2 2025. Built by Peersyst Technology and Ripple, the sidechain brings Ethereum compatibility to XRPL. Since the testnet launched on March 31, 2025, over 87 participants ranging from wallets to dApps have joined.
The sidechain runs on Cosmos SDK and evmOS, delivering fast transaction speeds, low costs, and support for Ethereum tools such as MetaMask and Truffle. With Wormhole’s infrastructure, developers can now move assets and trigger smart contract actions across chains more efficiently.
Cardano Eyes Interoperability with XRPL
At the same time, Cardano is exploring ways to link with XRPL. Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson recently proposed integrating XRP and RLUSD into the Cardano ecosystem via the Lace Wallet. His plan also includes using the Midnight sidechain to host private smart contracts for lending and staking, while keeping XRP on its original chain.

Additionally, Cardano will roll out interoperability bridges to networks like Ethereum, Solana, and Avalanche. To encourage adoption, the team will airdrop NIGHT tokens to XRP holders and distribute them across multiple chains in future phases.
Ripple’s partnership with Wormhole strengthens XRPL’s position in the multichain landscape. By enabling cross-chain asset transfers and smart contract interactions, Ripple is giving developers the tools to build scalable, secure, and interoperable applications for real-world finance.
