On Wednesday, RippleX, the development arm of Ripple, officially rolled out version 2.5.0 of the XRP Ledger, marking one of the most significant updates to date. According to Mayukha Vadari, a senior software engineer at RippleX, this version may include “the best single lineup of amendments” ever delivered in one release.
One of the standout changes in this release is the XLS-85 amendment. It expands the XRP Ledger’s escrow functionality, allowing users to manage third-party issued tokens such as stablecoins. Additionally, it introduces support for multi-purpose tokens (MPTs), which are primarily designed for institutional use cases. This update broadens the scope of escrow capabilities and helps integrate more financial instruments onto the XRPL.
XLS-56 Tackles Transaction Failures
Meanwhile, the XLS-56 amendment offers a technical solution to a recurring problem in multi-step transactions. Developers can now wrap up to eight separate transactions into a single wrapper transaction. Since roughly 30% of such transactions typically fail, this enhancement aims to significantly reduce those failures. Notably, Denis Angell, a core contributor also involved with the Xahau sidechain, introduced both XLS-85 and XLS-56.

RippleX also introduced two other amendments—XLS-81 and XLS-75. XLS-81 will allow for the implementation of permissioned decentralized exchanges, making trading more controlled and compliant. In contrast, XLS-75 enables permission delegation, which simplifies access control across various transaction types.
Stronger Security and Anti-Spam Features
The new version also includes critical safety checks. Automated market maker (AMM) transactions now undergo invariant checks to prevent operations that could undermine network integrity. Furthermore, RippleX has enhanced the platform’s NFT system to reduce spam. NFT interactions now require explicit user authorization, adding a much-needed layer of protection.
Finally, RippleX addressed key vulnerabilities in the payment channel system. One important bug fix prevents the accidental or malicious creation of unusable payment channels, reinforcing the reliability of the network.

XRP Ledger v2.5.0 brings robust functionality, stronger security, and practical tools that benefit both institutional users and individual participants. With these sweeping improvements, RippleX continues to shape the XRPL as a more resilient and scalable blockchain infrastructure.
