According to Charles Hoskinson, the CEO at Input Output Global (IOG), Cardano, a leading blockchain, is predicted to surpass Bitcoin and Ethereum to become the largest cryptocurrency globally.
Hoskinson made this audacious prediction during his speech at the Rare Evo 2023 convention. He emphasized that Cardano’s focus on decentralized decision-making and on-chain governance will play a crucial role in achieving this remarkable milestone in the future.
“So, that is our challenge, and this is why I think that Cardano is probably going to become the biggest cryptocurrency in the world,” he noted.
Cardano Ranks Behind Bitcoin & Ethereum
Cardano currently lags behind Bitcoin and Ethereum when it comes to market capitalization. As of now, Cardano holds the eighth position among cryptocurrencies, with a market valuation of $9.05 billion.
In contrast, Bitcoin and Ethereum dominate the cryptocurrency market as the top two contenders. Bitcoin holds the leading position with a staggering market capitalization of $506.21 billion, while Ethereum follows closely behind with a market cap of $198.07 billion.

Hoskinson Highlights Bitcoin & Ethereum Flaws
Despite Cardano’s current valuation lagging behind Bitcoin and Ethereum, Charles Hoskinson, the co-founder of Cardano, remains optimistic about its future prospects. Hoskinson believes that ADA has the potential to become the world’s largest cryptocurrency over time.
Hoskinson suggests that Cardano could potentially surpass Bitcoin and Ethereum in the long run due to the perceived inefficiencies in their governance models. He highlights Bitcoin’s static design as a weakness, emphasizing that it has remained unchanged for 13 years.
Furthermore, he points out that Ethereum’s lack of on-chain governance could be a liability as the project continues to attract millions of users. Hoskinson believes that these factors could ultimately work in Cardano’s favor, positioning it as a more robust and scalable platform.

Hoskinson Makes Further Predictions
Additionally, Hoskinson made further predictions, suggesting that Cardano has the potential to evolve beyond being just a cryptocurrency.
“I think it’s [Cardano is] going to become the backbone of a new digital nation, a new society—a place where we can finally begin to trust each other again, where we move from ‘don’t be evil’ to ‘can’t be evil,’” he added.
ADA on a Downtrend Over the Last 24 Hours
Currently, Cardano’s native token ADA is trading at $0.2588, experiencing a decline of 1.44% in the past 24 hours. The cryptocurrency has been facing consistent downward trends since May 2023. Furthermore, a recent chart indicates that ADA might continue to experience further declines, as it appears to be replicating its price movements from 2019.
