XRP Ledger Introduces Major Upgrades Including Batch Transactions

XRP Army Community Reacts Positively to XRP Ledger Development Roadmap

The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is on the verge of a major transformation as developers roll out a series of enhancements aimed at boosting real-world utility and interoperability. One of the most anticipated changes is the introduction of Token Escrows, which will soon allow more than just XRP to be held in escrow on the ledger.

Token Escrows to Support More Than Just XRP

Currently, only XRP can be escrowed within the XRPL ecosystem. However, this is set to change with the implementation of the “XLS-85d: Token Enabled Escrows” amendment. Once activated, this update will permit the escrow of other assets, such as Ripple’s USD stablecoin (RLUSD), tokenized real-world assets, and even meme coins.

This marks a significant shift toward broadening the functionality and real-world relevance of XRPL. In addition to token escrows, the XRP Ledger will soon benefit from Multi-Purpose Token (MPT) support. Vet, a dUNL validator who tweeted about the upgrade, described MPTs as a “great addition.”

These tokens are more compact and flexible versions of fungible tokens and require only minimal code to implement. MPTs, paired with existing IOU functionality, will likely increase the ease and efficiency of tokenization across XRPL. This update also promises to improve interoperability for developers and users alike.

Batch Transactions Feature Officially Added

Moreover, XRP Ledger has officially integrated the Batch Transactions feature into its codebase. The XLS-56d specification, now merged through a pull request, enables users to batch up to eight transactions. More importantly, it supports atomic swaps, allowing multiple actions to execute as a single unit. This ensures all transactions in a batch either succeed together or fail altogether.

According to RippleX software engineer Mayukha Vadari, these updates form part of a broader roadmap that includes several improvements set for release soon. The upcoming rippled 2.5.0 update, expected in June, will include the batch transactions feature and further elevate the platform’s utility.

Together, these upgrades aim to make XRPL more powerful, flexible, and user-friendly. With token escrows, MPTs, and batch transactions all becoming part of the core protocol, developers and businesses can expect a stronger foundation for real-world use cases. The XRP Ledger continues to evolve toward becoming a more versatile blockchain platform for both traditional finance and the growing token economy.
