Ripple Unlocks $2.2 Billion in XRP From Escrow for June 2025

Ripple Expands Global Reach Through Strategic Rail Acquisition

On June 1, 2025, Ripple released 1 billion XRP tokens from escrow as part of its regular monthly release. At the time of the release, the XRP tokens had a combined market value of approximately $2.21 billion. Blockchain tracking service Whale Alert flagged the transactions, which occurred in three parts.

First, Ripple transferred 400 million XRP worth roughly $882.47 million into its “Ripple 26” wallet at 1:42 a.m. UTC. Three minutes later, Ripple unlocked another 500 million XRP (valued at $1.1 billion) and deposited the funds into its “Ripple 27” wallet. Finally, the company released an additional 100 million XRP ($220.42 million) and sent it to the “Ripple 26” wallet. Following these moves, both Ripple 26 and Ripple 27 wallets now each hold 500 million XRP.

Ripple Also Locks 670 Million XRP in Escrow

Although Ripple released 1 billion XRP, the company also re-locked a substantial portion of the tokens. Just days before the June release, Ripple locked 670 million XRP back into escrow through two transactions. The first involved 470 million XRP, while the second included 200 million XRP. Together, these tokens are valued at approximately $1.46 billion.

As a result, Ripple has effectively added around 330 million XRP to the circulating supply, which currently stands at 58.76 billion. This net increase reflects Ripple’s ongoing strategy of balancing supply while maintaining transparency and predictability in XRP distribution.

Ripple’s Escrow Strategy Enhances Market Trust

Since 2017, Ripple has committed to releasing 1 billion XRP from its escrow holdings at the start of each month. Initially, the company locked 55 billion XRP in escrow to increase transparency. Over time, Ripple began re-locking a portion of the released tokens to help stabilize the market and avoid overwhelming it with excess supply.

XRP Transfers to Coinbase Spark Market Speculation

In a separate development, Whale Alert identified two large XRP transactions directed to Coinbase. Two unknown wallets moved nearly 54 million XRP to the crypto exchange in rapid succession. The first transaction involved 26.95 million XRP, while the second moved 27.04 million XRP both occurring around 4:43 p.m. UTC yesterday.

While Whale Alert initially labeled the wallets as unknown, on-chain data later revealed that Coinbase itself executed the transfers. The exchange moved the funds from its cold storage to operational wallets, a common step before facilitating trades or withdrawals. These movements have raised concerns among traders about potential selling pressure, although no immediate sell-off has been confirmed.

Ripple’s escrow releases and re-locking strategy continue to shape XRP’s market dynamics. By releasing 1 billion tokens and re-locking 670 million in June, the company maintains a careful balance between liquidity and control. Meanwhile, significant wallet activity involving Coinbase suggests that XRP may soon see increased trading activity, keeping investors attentive.
