Ripple has started its regular process of releasing escrowed XRP tokens for March, which involves unlocking 1 billion tokens. This happened shortly after the company moved 50 million tokens to a wallet whose owner is unknown, just 8 hours earlier.
At precisely 00:00 (UTC) today, Bithomp data confirms that four separate escrow executions were utilized to release 1 billion XRP tokens, which were then transferred to two addresses linked to Ripple.
In the latest release of escrowed XRP tokens, Ripple unlocked 100 million and 400 million tokens in Executions 15 and 16, respectively. These tokens were sent to an address owned by Ripple, which now has a balance of 1 billion XRP, as the tokens have not been transferred out.
The most recent escrow releases, Executions 17 and 18, unlocked 100 million and 400 million XRP tokens each. The recipient wallet for these tokens currently holds a balance of 1 billion XRP as of the time of writing.
Just 8 hours before the recent escrow executions, Ripple had transferred 50 million XRP (worth $18.89 million) to a wallet whose owner is unknown. However, it has since been confirmed that the recipient’s wallet is associated with the company and currently holds a balance of 67 million XRP.

In line with previous transactions, Ripple typically transfers these tokens to a new wallet, placing a portion in escrow while the rest funds the company’s daily operations.
As reported earlier, Ripple had locked up 600 million tokens in escrow last month, just 18 hours after unlocking 1 billion tokens.
To maintain stability and predictability in the XRP market, Ripple employs the use of XRP escrow locks. This involves depositing a significant amount of XRP into a locked account and gradually releasing it monthly over a specified period. In December 2017, Ripple locked up 55 billion XRP using this mechanism.
