Panasonic to Launch Virtual Reality (VR) Headsets for Metaverse Users

Panasonic Corporation’s formerly called Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. is a large Japanese multinational corporation headquartered in Kadoma, Osaka. It was founded in 1918 by Kōnosuke Matsushita as a manufacturer of light bulb sockets. It offers a wide range of products and services including rechargeable batteries, automotive and avionics systems, industrial systems, and home decoration and construction.

Panasonic to Release a Goggle-type Virtual Reality For Metaverse Users

According to a press release on January 3, Panasonic announced that it will launch a goggle-type virtual reality headset for users of the online platform “metaverse” this spring through its subsidiaries.

MeganeX headsets were unveiled to the media at an event ahead of the CES 2022 consumer electronics and information technology show to be held in Las Vegas on Wednesday. It is compatible with the Steam VR game distribution service.

Panasonic’s move comes at a time when Metaverse is gaining traction. Facebook Inc. has renamed itself Meta Platforms Inc. to focus on the world of virtual reality.

MeganeX Headset to Sell for Less Than 100,000 yen

According to Panasonic, MeganeX sells for less than 100,000 yen and is sold through its subsidiary Shiftall Inc. It hopes to differentiate the new headphones from competitors’ products through the balance between lightness and high definition.

MeganeX is primarily designed for users who have been using Metaverse for a long time and weighs 250 grams, which is about half the weight of similar products from Meta.

At the same time, it is equipped with a high-resolution organic electroluminescent microdisplay that gives the user an immersive feeling. Panasonic headphones can also detect head, neck and other body movements
