India is gearing up for its first Metaverse wedding as a Tamil Nadu couple decided to host their wedding reception digitally.
Metaverse Reception to Take Place in the Dining Room of Hogwarts Castle
According to the Times of India report on January 16, the event will take place in the dining room of Hogwarts Castle, where the couple’s avatars will greet avatars of their loved ones, who will log in from around the world.
Dinesh SP and Janaganandhini Ramaswamy will tie the knot in Krishnagiri district on the first Sunday of February. However, at their reception, the two take their guests to a virtual venue via a logging link on their laptops.
The bride’s deceased father’s avatar is to preside over the wedding reception.
For the uninitiated, Metaverse is a virtual reality world that combines augmented reality, virtual reality, and blockchain technology to create a space where users interact in real-time via digital avatars.
Groom Dinesh SP seemed very excited about his virtual reception and shared a short invitation clip from his upcoming nuptials on Twitter.
Dinesh SP told TOI that he had the idea of hosting a Metaverse wedding reception and his fiancee loved it. As a project partner at IIT Madras, the man has worked in crypto and blockchain technology and has mined Ethereum – a cryptocurrency last year.
Couple to a Harry Potter Themed Reception
As Metaverse integrates blockchain technology, Dinesh SP decided to hold a reception at Metaverse.
Bride Jaganandhini Ramaswamy was equally thrilled with their virtual reception, saying it was fitting to host the reception on the Metaverse as the two met on Instagram.
To put his hospitality plans into action, the groom turned to Vignesh Selvaraj of Quatics Tech, who specializes in web and mobile app development.
The decision to hold the reception in the world of Harry Potter is because both the bride and groom are Potterheads. While the two choose avatars in traditional attire, their guests can choose their avatars upon logging in.
Meanwhile, at their reception, the couple will also be receiving gifts like vouchers, cryptocurrencies, and wedding guests can also transfer money to them through Google Pay.
