XRP exchange reserves have plummeted by over $12.4 billion across major platforms like Binance, Upbit, and Bybit in just one week, according to fresh data from CryptoQuant. This dramatic decline in reserves has stirred discussions of a looming XRP supply shock, particularly as the asset consolidates around the $2 mark.
CryptoQuant data confirms that several centralized exchanges experienced a sharp reduction in XRP holdings between June 18 and June 24, hinting at a significant shift in investor behavior. The timing coincides with renewed optimism among XRP supporters, many of whom are hoping for a bullish breakout after months of sideways movement.
Binance and Upbit Lead the XRP Outflows
Among the affected platforms, Upbit and Binance recorded the most significant XRP outflows. Specifically, XRP exchange reserves dropped by 5.736 billion tokens, equating to nearly 10% of the total circulating supply of 58.9 billion XRP.
- Upbit saw the largest withdrawal. The South Korean exchange’s XRP reserves plunged from 6.069 billion tokens to 1.08 billion, a staggering reduction of 4.989 billion XRP.
- Binance experienced a more moderate decline, with reserves falling from 2.855 billion to 2.238 billion XRP, accounting for a loss of 617 million XRP.
- Bybit recorded a withdrawal of 127 million XRP, while Bitfinex observed a smaller drop of just 3.15 million XRP.
At the current market price of $2.17, the total withdrawn XRP is worth approximately $12.45 billion.

Why Massive Withdrawals Matter
Large-scale exchange withdrawals typically signal growing investor confidence in long-term holdings. When users transfer assets from exchanges to self-custody wallets, it often indicates their intention to hold rather than sell, thereby reducing short-term selling pressure. This scenario could precede a price rally.
This phenomenon is often referred to as a “supply shock”, where decreased available supply on exchanges may eventually drive up the asset’s price, especially if demand remains steady or rises.
Community Reacts to Potential Supply Shock
The XRP community quickly took notice of the exchange reserve crash. Market watcher Mr. Xoom highlighted the declines in Upbit and Binance reserves, sparking intense debate. In response, analyst Remi Relief predicted that this withdrawal trend could drive XRP’s price toward the $25–$75 range, citing a potential breakout powered by supply scarcity.
What’s Really Behind the Drop?
Although a supply shock is possible, alternative explanations remain. Some analysts suggest that these outflows might be internal transfers, such as exchanges moving assets to cold wallets for security purposes. However, this seems unlikely in this case, as no suspicious transactions were flagged, and monitoring tools like Whale Alert and XRPScan haven’t detected any large XRP transfers associated with these exchanges.
Moreover, the absence of significant on-chain activity makes it difficult to confirm whether these were user withdrawals or internal exchange adjustments. While some speculate about a possible glitch in the tracking systems, no official statements have been released to confirm or deny this theory.
No Immediate Price Impact – Yet
Despite the magnitude of the withdrawals, XRP’s price has remained relatively stable, still hovering around the $2.17 mark. Investors should note that withdrawals don’t always translate to immediate buying pressure, especially if tokens are being transferred to custodial solutions or hardware wallets.
Nevertheless, if these movements are indeed genuine investor withdrawals, the reduction in available exchange supply could create the conditions for an upward price movement, especially if institutional demand or retail momentum kicks in.
